Chandipura virus entre in Gujarat, more than 20 death suspected

THE CHANDIPURA viral encephalitis (CHPV) virus has entered Gujarat and more than twenty people’s deaths have been suspected of this virus. Including ten percent death in Ahmedabad city. More than 20 people are admitted in various hospitals in Gujarat. Gujarat chief minister honourable Bhupendra Patel with Gujarat top health officials discussed on Thursday the precaution to curb the spread of the virus.

The CHPV virus is spread in 13 districts of Gujarat. Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Mahesana, Sabarkantha, Mahisagar, Kheda, Panchmahal, Jamnagar, Morbi, Surendranagar get suspected cases of the virus. Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad municipal corporation has recorded two deaths and both are children. Sample of both suspected deaths sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune.


Symptoms of Chandipura virus: its most symptoms are similar to flu.

  • Vomiting
  • Sudden high fever
  •  Seizures
  •  Diarrhoea

THE CHANDIPURA  viral encephalitis (CHPV) virus was first time detected at Chandipura village in Maharashtra in 1966 so its name is given from Chandipura. Mostly affected young children who age under 15 years.
